Kericho County Assembly Speaker Hon. Patrick Mutai asked to resign.
The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party has reinstated Vincent Korir as the Kericho County Assembly Majority Leader, as well as Haron Rotich as the Majority Whip, paving the way for a section of the MCAs to call for Patrick Mutai’s resignation as Speaker of the Assembly.
In a letter dated November 14th to the Clerk of the County Assembly Martin Epus, UDA Secretary General Veronica Maina stated that the party stands by its initial decision on House Leadership.
In response to Korir and Rotich’s reinstallation, Deputy Speaker Erick Bett’, who represents Kipchebor ward, petitioned Speaker of the Assembly Patrick Mutai to resign for allegedly perpetuating impunity and “defiling” Kenya’s constitution.
Korir, who was flanked by 28 County Assembly members, said he was shocked to learn of the changes while he was in Egypt attending the United Nations Climate Change Conference.
Kisiara MCA spoke at the press conference. Gilbert Ng’etich, the Speaker’s declared new majority Whip, claimed he was elected in absentia and thus declined the position.
MCA Chemosot Ward Anita Biegon expressed disappointment that the house had been adjourned earlier than planned.
